A series of recent accidents, some involving in-flight fires, has called attention to the fact that many of our vintage aircraft have O-rings and gaskets in their fuel systems that are 30 to 50 years old. Newer, more durable, and more reliable fluorosilicone materials have supplanted these old-fashioned nitrile rubber seals. In this webinar, Mike Busch offers a short history of the development of improved elastomeric seals, and discusses the importance of upgrading our O-rings and gaskets in the context of unleaded avgas.
