Webinar
The Beginning of Ultralights

Thursday, February 26, 2026, 1 p.m. CST

Presenter: John Moody

Join John Moody, aka the father of ultralights, for a talk about why he chose an Icarus II hang glider to learn to fly. John will discuss the early days of learning to fly and why he chose to add an engine to the hang glider. In 1976, John demonstrated his powered hang glider at the EAA fly-in convention in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He will discuss those flights that started a movement which led to the formation of FAR Part 103 ultralight vehicles.
