Before the Wright brothers’ first flight, on July 2, 1900, the first Zeppelin, the LZ-1, carried several passengers aloft for a flight over Lake Konstanz, Germany. A rigid airship was also the first aircraft to carry passengers across the Atlantic Ocean, twice as fast as the steamship of the day.
