Bolted Joints in Shear

Wed, March 4, 2020 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM CST

Presenter: Mike Busch

Bolted joints loaded in shear are used to hold the wings onto the fuselage of everything from RVs to Cessna 150s to B-17s. Almost all riveted joints are loaded in shear, and metal aircraft often have thousands of them. Maintenance expert Mike Busch discusses how these shear joints are designed, how they fail, and how to prevent them from doing so. He also discusses the pros and cons of rivets versus bolts. Qualifies for FAA WINGS and AMT credit.
