An aircraft owner notices that his oil pressure has been trending downward in recent months. He brings his plane to a large, well-known, factory-authorized service center to have the oil pressure adjusted. They tell him that his engine needs to be replaced or overhauled to the tune of $50,000, and that trying to adjust the oil pressure up would be "like putting a Band-Aid on a bullet wound." The engine is about mid-TBO and the owner is understandably in a state of shock. Mike Busch A&P/IA relates how one of his Savvy Aviation colleagues came to the rescue and got the plane out of jail and the owner airborne (with good oil pressure) in a matter of a few hours. Qualifies for FAA WINGS and AMT credit.
