Sailplane Mountain Flying - What is Possible?

Wednesday, April 26, 2017 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM CDT

Presenter: Bruno Vassel

Modern gliders (sailplanes) surprise most people, including other pilots, with what they can do. On a normal summer's day while gliding in the western US, sailplane pilots are often flying many hundreds of miles in flights lasting 6 to 8 hours. How is this even possible? Bruno Vassel from the Soaring Society of America discusses the thrill and challenge of flying gliders long distances over the Rocky Mountains and the Great Basin in America's west. Qualifies for FAA Wings credit.
